Clemson’s Danny Poe Earns ACC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week Accolade

Sept. 18, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Danny Poe was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week after helping the Tigers to a flawless 2-0 record, including wins over Wofford and fifth-ranked North Carolina.

Poe, who came off the bench for the Tigers, scored early in the second half to lead second-ranked Clemson to a 1-0 victory over the Tar Heels. The win extended Clemson’s unbeaten streak to seven games and marks the best start for a Tiger squad since the 1978 season.

A crowd of 7,012, the second largest in Historic Riggs Field history, was on hand to witness Poe’s second game-winning goal of the season and fifth of his career.

The junior also scored the winning goal in Clemson’s 2-1 win over number-one ranked Maryland on September 8. Poe came off the bench en route to scoring the game-winning goal with 16:02 left in the match.

Clemson will wrap up a four-game home stand tomorrow, September 19, at the Historic Riggs Field as the Tigers welcome Longwood for a 7 p.m. ET start. Clemson will resume league play on Sunday, September 24, traveling to Raleigh, N.C. to face NC State.
