April 13, 2001

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team (8-11/1-5) will face #2 Duke and #20 North Carolina this weekend to wrap up its ACC regular season slate. The Tigers host the Tar Heels (13-5/4-2) Saturday and the Blue Devils (19-1/6-0) on Sunday.

The Tigers are 26-8 in their series with North Carolina. The teams first met in 1978 and Clemson holds a 26-8 advantage in the all-time series. Clemson is 9-4 at home against the Tar Heels. Last year, the Tigers defeated North Carolina 6-3 in Chapel Hill in the only meeting between the teams.

Clemson has faced the Blue Devils 33 times since 1978, and Duke holds a 19-12 advantage over the Tigers in the all-time series. The teams met twice during the 2000 season, with the Blue Devils winning both matches. Duke won the regular season match 3-6 in Durham and defeated the Tigers 1-5 at the ACC Tournament in Atlanta.

Saturday’s match against UNC is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. while Sunday’s match against Duke is slated to begin at noon. Both matches will be played at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
