Clemson Women’s Tennis Player Ani Mijacika Selected To NCAA Singles Championship

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team had one singles player and one doubles team invited to participate in the 2007 NCAA Individual Championships, as announced by the selection committee on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Ani Mijacika will compete in the national singles tournament and will partner with sophomore Federica van Adrichem to represent the Tigers in the NCAA doubles competition.

With their selections, Clemson has had a participant in the NCAA Singles Championship for the sixth straight year and a doubles tournament team for the fifth straight year.

Van Adrichem will be making her second straight appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships, as she paired with Carol Salge last season. She and Mijacika are currently ranked #11 in the Fila/ITA Tennis doubles poll. The tandem has compiled a 14-4 record that includes four wins over nationally ranked opponents. They have won their last four decisions and have been ranked as high as seventh this year.

Mijacika, the reigning ACC Freshman-of-the-Year, also boasts a 24-6 overall singles record and the #27 national ranking. The Makarska, Croatia native went undefeated at 11-0 in the conference regular season and posted a 19-3 mark in dual matches. She won 14 straight matches during the spring, a streak that was snapped by the nation’s #1-ranked player in the semifinals of the ACC Championships.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 18-22). The University of Georgia will serve as host. The singles field consists of 64 players, while 32 doubles team will compete in the tournament. Draws will be announced at a later date.
