Clemson Notes:

  • Clemson most recently saw action on Friday night in a double overtime battle with No. 10 Louisville on the road that ended in a 1-0 Cardinal win.
  • Adrian Nuñez leads the team with five goals on the year, and that combined with one assist give him 11 points on the year. However, the Tigers have had a variety of players contributing to scoring this season, with 15 players tallying at least one point so far.
  • Aside from Nuñez, eight Tigers have all found the back of the net at least once this season: Tanner Dieterich (3), Quinn McNeill (2), Grayson Barber (1), Patrick Bunk-Andersen (1), Andrew Burnikel (1), Malick Mbaye (1), John Murphy Jr. (1) and Kimarni Smith (1).
  • Charlie Asensio, Barber, Burnikel, Nate Hall, Johnny Heckman, Justin Malou, Chris Matlashewski, Smith and Cale Thorne have all added at least one assist.
  • Keeper Jonny Sutherland has seen the majority of action in goal for the Tigers, totaling 21 saves against 16 goals allowed in 887 minutes over 10 matches. However, George Marks has also seen time, playing all 110 minutes of the Tigers’ double-overtime match against UMass as his collegiate debut in addition to every minute of Clemson’s matches against College of Charleston, Pitt and Louisville. Through the four matches, Marks has allowed four goals against eight saves. Nolan Lennon played the final 11 minutes of the Tigers’ match against Furman and allowed one goal.
  • The Tigers are led by team captains Bunk-Andersen and Dieterich.

Syracuse Notes:

  • The Orange most recently saw action in a 1-1 draw against No. 21 NC State on Friday night. Sophomore defender Sondre Norheim netted the lone Syracuse goal in the fifth minute, but NC State tied it up in the final minute of regulation, and the tie stood after double overtime.
  • With Friday’s tie, Syracuse has an active six-game unbeaten streak, dating back to a 3-1 road win over Akron on Oct. 1.
  • Aside from Norheim, who now has five goals on the year, nine other Syracuse players have found the back of the net this season, led by sophomore forward Tajon Buchanan’s eight goals and four assists, good for 20 points. Freshman midfielder Ryan Raposo’s six assists are a team high.
  • Senior keeper Hendrik Hilpert has seen the majority of action in goal for the Orange, allowing 17 goals against 45 saves, a mark that is third-highest in the ACC. He has started all 14 matches for Syracuse, with redshirt sophomore Jake Leahy playing 21 minutes in the Orange’s 7-0 rout of St. Bonaventure on Oct. 16.

Series Notes:

  • Clemson and Syracuse met twice during the 2017 season, with the first being a come-from-behind 2-1 Tiger win on the road, and the second coming in the first round of the ACC Tournament, which saw Clemson advance on penalty kicks, 4-3, after the score stood at 2-2 following double overtime at Historic Riggs Field.
  • Including last year’s ACC Tournament matchup, four of the last five meetings of the Tigers and Orange have seen ties, with Clemson advancing each of the three times penalty kicks were required.
  • Dating back to 2013, Syracuse holds a 3-2-4 edge in the series.
