Parker, Campbell Post Record-Setting Performances At South Carolina Saturday

The Lead

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Clemson’s Marcus Parker and LaFranz Campbell, both of whom transferred to Clemson this past fall, inserted themselves into the Clemson record books for the first time Saturday at South Carolina’s Gamecock Invitational, which was held at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track. Both Parker and Campbell set No. 6 program marks in their respective events, the 200m and 110mH.

Parker ran 20.33 in the men’s 200m dash, in addition to running the team’s leading time – 10.28 – so far this season in the 100m dash. Parker placed second overall in the 200m dash. Campbell clocked a personal-best 13.62 in Saturday’s prelims, which is also good for No. 10 in the nation and second in the ACC. Campbell went on to place third overall in finals, registering a time of 13.79.

“Marcus [Parker] and LaFranz [Campbell] ran extremely well today as did a lot of other people,” said Clemson track & field head coach Mark Elliott. “Today was more of an individual day, trying to get our marks on to the East Regional qualifying list. Alex [Sands] ran well for us in the sprints as did Kamryn [McIntosh]. I think she’s back where she wants to be. There were lots of PR’s today, especially in the women’s sprints - they had an outstanding day. I think we saw a lot of carryover from Texas A&M, which because of the weather, we didn’t have chance to compete last week. So, I think they were excited and motivated to compete today.”

Men's Highlights

  • In addition to Parker’s performance, Alex Sands stood out for the Tigers, achieving his personal best in the 200m dash with a time of 20.78.
  • DJ Ledell posted his season best with the Tigers’ furthest leap of 15.30m (50-2.5) this season in the men’s triple. Ledell placed second overall.

Women's Highlights

  • All four Clemson competitors entered in the 100m dash – Rebekah Smith, Sarah Hill, Zeniyah Lawrence and Sidney Marshall – achieved season bests. The Tigers were led by Smith, who placed fourth overall with a time of 11.32. Smith’s time would be tied for 10th overall in the NCAA and second in the ACC entering the weekend.
  • Kamryn McIntosh clocked Clemson’s fastest time in the open 800m with a season best of 2:05.54, which would stand as the ACC’s No. 2 time in the event.
  • Lakeisha Warner won the women’s 400mH with her second best time of the season – 58.59 seconds. Saturday’s win marks the third over her career in the 400mH.
  • Freshman Kenya Livingston was Saturday’s runner-up in the women’s high jump. Livingston cleared a height of 1.65m (5-5) – her season best.
