Two Clemson Women’s Track and Field Athletes Set Automatic Marks

CLEMSON, S.C. – Two Clemson women’s track and field athletes and a relay team set automatic qualifying marks at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, TN, on Saturday. Cydonie Mothersill automatically qualified individually in the 200m dash and also qualified as a member of Clemson’s 4x400m relay team. Jamine Moton also met the automatic qualifying standard in the shot put while Michelle Burgher provisionally qualified in the 400m dash.

Mothersill won the 200m dash and recorded an automatic time of 22.67 in the 200m while Shekera Weston finished fourth in the event. Michelle Burgher provisionally qualified in the 400m dash as she finished fourth with a time of 53.25. Marcia Smith was ninth (54.00) in the 400m dash and LaShonda Cutchins finished 19th with a time of 55.08. Perry Fields finished 16th in the 800m dash with a time of 2:09.09 while Jennifer Meador was 17th in the 3000m dash (10:28.24). Keke Elder posted a fifth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.61 and Nyjla Littlejohn was sixth in the 400m hurdles (59.94). The Tigers’ 4x400m relay team of Michelle Burgher, LaShonda Cutchin, Marcia Smith and Shekera Weston won the event with an automatic qualifying time of 3:33.39.

In the field events, Jamine Moton posted an automatic qualifying mark of 52’8 3/4″ in the shot put, finishing third overall but as the top collegiate finisher. Moton also provisionally qualified in the discus throw with a mark of 170’5″ and a fifth-place finish. In the hammer throw, Moton was eighth with a mark of 173’3″. Katie Pickett finished 12th in the high jump, clearing 5’6″. Sheri Smith was 15th in the triple jump with a mark of 39’3 3/4″. Joana Costa posted a sixth place finish in the pole vault (12’1 1/2″) and Sarah Ellis recorded her best mark of the season, clearing 11’1 3/4″.

The Lady Tigers will compete at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships next Friday and Saturday in Orlando, FL. The meet will take place at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
