Tigers Prepare for Georgia Tech Invitational

Nov. 17, 2011

ATLANTA, GA – The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will participate in the Georgia Tech Invite in Atlanta this weekend. The three-day event will feature nine teams from Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

The Georgia Tech Invitational is a great meet to see how the teams handle a multiple-day championship format,” Head Coach Christopher Ip said. “With our teams so low in numbers, each swimmer must compete in the maximum number of events possible. The coaching staff will get a good evaluation of how hard we can push each individual swimmer. It is a fine balance between pushing our swimmers to the maximum or dropping back some and getting quality efforts in fewer events. This meet also offers the opportunity to compete against many out-of-conference teams.”

The Tigers will be joined in the meet by ACC foes Florida State, Miami (FL), Virginia Tech, and host Georgia Tech. Emory, Florida, Florida Atlantic, and Florida Gulf Coast will also be participating in the meet. Clemson took part in the Georgia Tech Invitational last season, with the men’s team finishing in third place and the women’s team coming in seventh place.

The meet will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with some preliminary heats, with the finals coming up at 6 p.m. The schedule will remain the same on Saturday, with preliminary heats beginning at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m. On Sunday, preliminaries will start at 9 a.m. and finals will start at 3 p.m.
