Tigers Off to Strong Start at ACCs

CLEMSON, S.C. — The women’s distance medley relay finished runner-up Thursday in Clemson’s opening event at the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. The Tigers scored eight points in their first event of the three-day competition, and are fifth in the team standings behind North Carolina, Florida State, NC State and Miami.

The team of Natoya Goule, Nia Fluker, Tanisha Coppin and Grace Barnett combined to form a time of 11:14.43. The Tigers led the first three legs before the Seminoles put together an outstanding final leg.

The men’s team also scored Thursday, with three points courtesy James Plummer in the weight throw. Plummer finished in sixth place, with a personal best 54-11.25. His mark puts him third in the Clemson record books. Jordan Pickerel also hit a personal best in the weight throw, finishing 15th overall with a mark of 56-3.25.

The action comes fast and furious on Friday. Clemson’s first event is the men’s high jump at 12 p.m. The running preliminaries start at 2:00.
