Men’s Track & Field Set to Host Clemson Opener

The men’s track & field team will play host to over 30 schools in the season opener at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex this weekend. The Tigers will have 14 student-athletes competing, while many more will be running as unattached entries. The meet will get underway Friday at 5:00 PM and Saturday at 11:00 AM. The event is scheduled to be part of the ACC Select video streaming package on www.clemsontigers.com on Saturday.

The weight throw will be the first men’s event on Friday and will feature red-shirt freshman Ryan Koontz will compete in the long jump for Clemson. Fields was a regional qualifier last outdoor season in the long jump, while Koontz is the returning indoor heptathlon champion in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The prelims for the 60m high hurdles will take place Friday at 6:10 PM. Koontz will take part in that event with teammates Joey O’Rourke, and Andrew Porter. Feathers and O’Rourke are also returning multi-event athletes this season, while Porter returns in the hurdles. The 60m dash trials will take place at 6:50 PM and will feature a pair of returning All-ACC performers in the event in Corey Brown and Travis Padgett. Finals for both the high hurdles and 60m will be Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

Adam Linkenauger, six-time ACC champion, will highlight the high jump efforts for Clemson on Saturday at 11. The Fincastle, VA native will be joined in that event by Koontz. The 400m dash is scheduled for 12:40 PM Saturday. Brown, Porter, and O’Rourke will be joined by Cowin Mills in that event. Mills, Padgett, and Porter will run in the 200m dash at 2:50 PM that same day.

At 1:00 on Saturday, returning All-American Jason Bell will compete in the triple jump, while indoor record-holder Kenny Knox are also entered in the pole vault.
