Men’s Tennis Signs Two

Dec. 10, 2002

Clemson Head Men’s Tennis Coach, Chuck Kriese signed two players to National Letters of Intent to play tennis at Clemson in the 2003-04 season. Ryan Young of Charleston, SC and Robbye Poole of Ridgleland, MS are the two signees.

Young attends the Charleston Country School of the Arts in Charleston. He is tabbed as one of the most decorated junior players in the state ever. He was named the state Player of the Year by the South Carolina Tennis Association in 2002. In 1994-2002, he has won every state singles title but one in the various age groups. He has been named all-state in 1998-2001 and has represented South Carolina in the Junior Davis Cup competition since 1998.

Poole is ranked number 63 in singles in the 18s age group. He is also ranked number one in Mississippi and ninth in the south. Last year he was the state finalist in singles and doubles in the state of Mississippi High School Tournament. In the 16s age group, he was ranked 17th nationally, and number one in the south.

“We could not be happier in adding these two young men to our program,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck Kriese. “We look forward to the next four years in working with these fine players. Ryan is from Charleston, SC and has a solid foundation in tennis. He will be able to play at the high level on our team. Robbye has a great work ethic and is an outstanding player.”
