LOUISVILLE, KY – Louisville defeated Clemson 5-2 in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at Louisville, KY Saturday evening. With the win, Louisville improves to 5-4 overall, while Clemson falls to 1-3 this season. Clemson had impressive straight-set wins at the two top spots in the singles lineup. At number one-singles, Yannick Maden defeated Louisville’s Andrew Carter 6-0, 6-3. At number-two singles, Gerardo Meza defeated the Cardinals’ Seb Stiefelmeyer 7-6. 6-4. Maden is ranked 59th in the latest singles rankings.

Yannick Maden has a team-leading 14-4 record overall in singles play this season. In dual matches he is 3-1 this year.

“Credit goes to Louisville tonight,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “We fought hard to put ourselves in a good position again today, and are right there ready to break through. This team is gaining momentum by having to play tough road matches. This was very evident tonight with Gerardo Meza as he got a solid win over one of the best freshman in the country. Yannick did a solid job closing his singles match tonight then went straight into supporting his teammates. I am extremely proud of the fight and intensity we have brought to each match and the positive attitude shown by each player. We will have a solid week of practice, work of specific areas and look forward to playing Furman and Wisconsin in the upcoming week,” said Chuck McCuen.

Clemson will play at Furman on Wednesday, February 15, at 3:00 p.m. in the Tigers’ next action.
