Clemson’s George Kitchens Earns All-America Honors In Long Jump

AUSTIN, TX – Clemson’s George Kitchens earned All-America honors at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the long jump on Thursday. Kitchens posted a season-best mark of 25’4.5″ on his first jump of the night to earn his second All-America accolade outdoor. With this year’s honor, he became the first Tiger to earn the distinction twice. Kitchens also tied the Clemson record for the highest finish in the long jump at the NCAA Championships, joining former All-American Kai Maull who also placed eighth in 1999.

In other action for the Tigers on Thursday, Clemson’s 4x100m relay team set another season-best mark, crossing the finish line in 39.57 to place 11th. In the preliminaries of the 100m dash, Airese Currie and Tye Hill each recorded a time of 10.27. Currie and Hill also competed in the preliminaries of the 200m dash, posting times of 21.22 and 21.02, respectively. In the 110m hurdles preliminaries, Lydell Perry finished in 14.21. Adam Linkenauger competed in the qualifying round of the high jump, clearing 6’10.75″.

Competition for the Tigers will continue for the Tigers on Friday as Rick Hill will compete in the decathlon.
