Clemson Women’s Track and Field Finishes Second In The Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s track and field team finished second in the Clemson Invitational held Saturday at the Rock Norman Track Complex. Florida State won the meet with 203 points while the Lady Tigers were second with 183 points. Western Carolina was third with 144 points and Appalachian State finished fourth with 94 points. Four Lady Tigers and the 4x100m relay team posted provisional qualifying marks in the meet. Cydonie Mothersill, Shekera Weston, Mandy McLane and Joana Costa turned in performances that could qualify them for inclusion in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Mothersill won the 100m dash with a provisional time of 11.31, setting a new Clemson record, while Weston won the 200m dash and the 400m dash. She recorded a provisional time of 53.62 in the 400m and claimed the 200m with a time of 23.91. LaShonda Cutchin was third in the 200m with a time of 24.48. In the 800m, Perry Fields recorded a second place finish in 2:11.97 and was also the runner up in the 1500m with a time of 4:42.39. Kristi Toothman finished third in the 5000m with a time of 19:44.03. Keke Elder won the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.83 while Nyjla Littlejohn was third in 14.20. Michelle Burgher claimed the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.04 and Nyjla Littlejohn finished second with a time of 1:01.15. The 4x100m relay team won that event with a provisional qualifying time of 44.26 and the 4x400m relay team claimed that event in 3:41.16.

In the field events, Mandy McLane and Joana Costa provisionally qualified in the pole vault after clearing 12’31/2″. McLane won the event while Costa finished fourth. Katie Pickett was second in the high jump, clearing 5’61/2″. Katrina Moultrie finished second in the long jump with a mark of 18’91/4″ and Sheri Smith was third with a mark of 18’41/2″. Smith won the triple jump with a mark of 41’33/4″. Jamine Moton won the hammer throw with a mark of 165’7″ and was second in the discus (155’7″). Elizabeth Lord was the top finisher for the Lady Tigers in the javelin throw with a mark of 105’4″.
