Clemson Downs The Citadel In Men’s Basketball, 84-76

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) – Will Solomon scored 26 points to lead Clemson to an 84-76 victory against The Citadel on Saturday.

Solomon was one of four Tigers (2-1) to score in double digits. Tony Stockman came off the bench to score 15 points in 28 minutes. Chris Hobbs came off the bench for 11 points and 15 rebounds and Scott Edward scored 12 points.

Stockman sparked a 12-2 run with a steal and a layup that gave the Tigers a 55-54 lead, then capped it with a 3-pointer for a 61-56 advantage with 12:45 left to play in the game.

Clemson had to work to stay ahead of the Bulldogs (2-1) most of the game. The Tigers’ biggest lead was 13 points.

The Bulldogs led 54-49 four minutes into the final half. They trailed the Tigers most of the game and pulled within 80-74 with 32 seconds left.

The Citadel dominated the boards, finishing with a 62-41 rebounding edge, including a 30-8 advantage in offensive rebounds.

The Bulldog’s 62 rebounds were the most by a Clemson opponent since South Carolina grabbed 71 against the Tigers in 1970.

Cliff Washburn scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Michael Joseph got 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Mike Roy led the Bulldogs with 14 points. Both Alan Puckett and Travis Cantrell scored 13 points.
