Voeks Wins Discus Title Friday at Florida Relays

The Lead

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the second straight meet in as many weeks, Clemson junior Grant Voeks registered his second straight victory – this time in the discus- on a career best toss of 55.73m (182-10.25) Friday at the Florida Relays. With Friday’s mark, Voeks remains at No. 5 all-time in program history and is one of just two Clemson throwers to rank in the program’s top-10 in multiple events.

In addition to Voeks, Clemson saw a number of standout performances on the track as well as freshman Veronica Fraley, who set the program’s No. 2 mark in the discus.

Head Coach Mark Elliott

“I think across the board, we’re really coming along nicely,” said Clemson track & field head coach Mark Elliott. “Our team – on both sides – is competing hard and it’s showing. We obviously had some big performances today – Veronica, Andrea, Deonte and Grant – along with so many others. We’ve got to keep this momentum going all the way through our championship season.”

Men's Highlights

  • Deonte Tolbert clocked his career best – 46.33 seconds – and Clemson’s top time this season in the 400m dash. Tolbert placed sixth overall and was also the top runner out of heat No. 6.
  • In the men’s 800m race, John Lewis clocked his season-best time between indoor and outdoor with a time of 1:48.86 to place 10th Right behind Lewis, was Malik Epps who achieved his outdoor personal best with a time of 1:50.19.

  • Freshman Veronica Fraley surpassed her previous personal best in the discus in just her third collegiate outdoor meet. Fraley registered a mark of 51.61m (169-4) on her third attempt of the day, which elevates her from No. 3 to No. 2 all-time in program history, and is CU’s longest toss in the event since 2013.
  • In her first outdoor 800m race at Clemson, Andrea Foster posted the program’s No. 8 time of 2:06.69. Seven Tigers now rank in the Clemson top-10 in the event under the direction of Elliott, including current Tigers Foster and Kamryn McIntosh.
