CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team swept Wofford on Friday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers improve to 5-0 overall while the Terriers fall to 2-2 on the season.
In doubles play the Tigers claimed victories on courts two and three. Seniors Christian Harris and Daffra Sanon improved to 3-1 overall with a strong 6-0 victory at No. 3. Senior Robert Dudley and freshman Carlos Kelaidis extended their unbeaten streak to five after clinching the doubles point at No. 2, 6-2.
The Tigers came out strong in singles play when junior Sam Edwards and senior Robert Dudley nearly clinched at the same time, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead over the Terriers. Edwards was the first to clinch with a (6-2, 6-0) victory over Julian Chousa of Wofford at No. 4. Dudley was not far behind when he clinched the point at No. 3 with a (6-2, 6-1) win against Parks Schoen. Senior Daffra Sanon then clinched the match with a strong effort at No. 2, (6-4, 6-3), improving to 4-1 overall in dual matches. Favrot, Harris, and Lett all won their matches after the complete the sweep over Wofford, 7-0.
“I am proud of the toughness the guys showed today. No doubt we have improved a level from last weekend. We would like to thank our family, friends, and fans who came out for today’s match. The support was great, ” said Head Coach John Boetsch.
Clemson returns to the courts on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the Tigers hosts Michigan State and Presbyterian at Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
