Tigers Battle Down to Wire Against Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a match decided by a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles, Charlotte edged Clemson, 4-3, on Sunday evening.

The Tigers claimed the doubles point, taking two of the three matches, with wins at No. 1 by Alex Favrot and Simon Baudry (6-2) and No. 2 by Sam Edwards and Yizhou Liu (6-3).

Liu posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles to give the Tigers an early 2-1 lead in the match. Baudry battled back for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 to tie the match at 3-3.

Turning Point

Carlos Kelaidis at No. 4 singles for the Tigers was down 3-4 in the third set and broke his opponents’ serve to tie the set at 4-4. Kelaidis and the 49ers’ Benjamin Wayand both held serve to take the set to a 6-6 tiebreak, where Wayand won the tie break 7-2, taking the third set 7-6 for the match point.

Inside the Box Score

– The French Duo, Favrot and Baudry, improved to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.

– Freshman Yizhou Liu improved to 2-0 in singles and doubles as a Tiger.

News & Notes

– This was the first meeting between the two programs since 1999.

– With the loss, Clemson continues to lead the series 15-4.
