CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson track and field team saw great success on the first day of the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Elite Meet, as a couple of Tigers won events, including freshman thrower Daniel Cope who threw himself onto the top of the Clemson all-time leaderboard in the weight throw with a toss of 21.04 meters. Since arriving at Clemson in the spring, Cope has quickly made a name for himself, and now he rests firmly in Clemson throws history for the foreseeable future. Several other impressive marks were set by Tigers on Friday, as Saturday shapes up to bring further excitement and success in the team’s penultimate meet of the regular season.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Daniel Cope set the school-record in the weight throw with a launch of 21.04m on his final attempt. It is the 20th best mark in NCAA this season.
  • Guinove Joanus ran the fastest 60 meter dash in the prelims today with a personal best of 6.67. He and Cameron Rose (6.89) both qualified for the finals.
  • Joanus and Rose came in second and third in the finals, running 6.69 and 6.76, respectively. Rose’s 6.67 was a personal best.
  • Ockera Myrie ran the fastest 60 meter prelim in the meet with her time of 7.49. Her and Areya Campbell (7.63) each qualified for finals.
  • Myrie went on to win the event with a new PR of 7.42, .15 seconds faster than the second-place finisher
