PHILADELPHIA – Clemson’s short-sprints duo of Rebekah Smith and Torie Robinsontook to the Penn Relays’ podium Saturday at Franklin Field after placing first and second, respectively, in the women’s 100m dash championship. Smith turned in her season best and second-best time of her career, 11.31 seconds, while Robinson (11.32) finished just 0.01 seconds behind Smith. Robinson’s time is also good for her non wind-aided season best and No. 2 career time in the event.
“Just be powerful, and that’s all I could do to win,” said Smith when asked about her mindset going into today’s race. “Last year, I didn’t make it to the finals in the 100m, so it was great to make it to the finals and then get first place.”
Kendra Clarke, Ebony Williams, Kamryn McIntosh and Fellan Ferguson earned the Tigers’ season best of 3:32.79 in the women’s 4x400m relay – the final women’s event of the day. The group shaved more than two seconds off Clemson’s previous season-best time of 3:34.96, which they attained at the 2018 Texas Relays. The Tigers were edged by Duke (3:32.43), but both times would be good for the ACC’s top-2 4x400m relay times on the women’s side entering this weekend.
Senior Jeremiah Green, who holds both of Clemson’s indoor and outdoor triple jump records, earned runner-up status in Saturday’s championship. Green achieved a best leap of 15.67m (3.0w) on his sixth and final jump of the day. Entering this weekend, Green ranked second in the ACC, sixth in the east region and 13th in the NCAA after his Clemson record-setting performance of 16.02m at LSU’s Tiger Track Classic last weekend. Additionally, freshman DJ Ledell posted a solid fourth-place finish in the men’s college triple jump with a best jump 14.94m.
