Morris Garners First Team All-ACC Status Friday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Clemson’s Logan Morris earned First Team All-ACC honors Friday after placing second in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the 2018 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The sophomore turned in her career best time of 10:07.13, surpassing her own No. 2 program record in the event, which she set at this year’s Texas Relays. Morris was towards the front for most of the race, but a made a late push on the final lap, finishing second only to Syracuse’s Paige Stoner, who set the meet record with a time of 9:50.42. With her finish, Morris tallied eight points for the Tiger women.

In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, junior James Quattlebaum garnered Second Team All-ACC honors with his fifth-place finish overall. Quattlebaum, who was in section No. 2, crossed the finish line at the 8:59.87 mark after sitting in eighth for most of the race before kicking into overdrive at the final 200m stretch to claim his first career outdoor All-ACC distinction.

 

DJ Ledell was the only ACC freshman to advance to the men’s long jump finals Friday. Ledell achieved his personal best among both indoor and outdoor performances on his first attempt of the day, flying for a distance of 7.51m. The Lexington, S.C., native finished sixth overall to tally the Tigers’ first three points of the meet. Additionally, senior Ishmael Kamaraqualified for finals and finished in ninth place with a season-best mark of 7.41m.

The Clemson women’s middle distance group had a strong outing in the 800m, tallying three personal bests, including Kamryn McIntosh (2:04.28), Grace Barnett (2:05.89) and Dana Maydew (2:09.58). McIntosh ran the fastest prelim time of all competitors, posted the No. 4 800m time in program history and was the only freshman to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Barnett, a senior, ran her career best of 2:05.89, which is good for No. 6 in program history. Barnett placed second in the third heat and third overall to qualify for finals. Senior Fellan Ferguson (2:06.13) joins McIntosh and Barnett in the 800m finals as her first-place finish automatically qualified her for Saturday’s finals, which are slated for 6:40 p.m. The combination of McIntosh, Barnett and Ferguson gives the Tigers the most competitors in women’s 800m finals with a chance to score up to 24 points in the event. McIntosh, Ferguson and Barnett now rank 4-6 in program history, respectively.

 

On the men’s side, junior John Lewis also automatically qualified for the 800m finals after winning the third heat with a time of 1:49.39. The men’s finals are set to begin at after the women’s 800m at 6:50 p.m.

 

Like the 800m, the Tigers saw production from both men’s and women’s 400m groups. On the women’s side, junior Kendra Clarke ran her PR in 53.36 seconds to place third in the first heat and fifth overall. Clarke is set to run in Saturday’s finals at 6 p.m.

 

Cordell Lamb continued his stout senior campaign, winning heat No. 3 to automatically advance to the 400m finals. The Miami Gardens, Fla., native clocked a time of 47.35 seconds, beating the second-place finisher in his heat by more than a full second. Additionally, senior Jeffrey Green(47.68) achieved his season best in his final ACC Championship, while freshman Deonte Tolbert (47.92) nabbed his PR.

 

CU’s short-sprints duo of Rebekah Smith and Torie Robinson qualified for the women’s 100m dash finals after both placed second in their respective heats in Friday’s prelim. Smith also earned a second-place overall finish after crossing the finish line at the 11.37 mark, while Robinson registered a time of 11.46 seconds. Robinson will make her second career appearance in the ACC 100m dash finals, while Smith will make her debut. Saturday’s finals round is slated for 7:20 p.m.

 

Qualifying for the men’s 110m hurdles finals is senior Kirk Lewis (14.26), who finished third in the second heat. Lewis is set to compete in Saturday’s finals at 5:50 p.m.

 

Junior Dylan Ahrens kicks off action for the Tigers Saturday, the final day of the 2018 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, at 11 a.m. On the track, Lakeisha Warner will start things off in the women’s 400m hurdles at 6 p.m. Coverage on ACC Network Extra is set to air beginning at 5 p.m.
