Clemson’s Corey Brown Qualifies For NCAA Championships At 2005 Clemson Opener

CLEMSON, SC – Corey Brown’s performance in the 60m dash highlighted the Clemson men’s track and field team’s first day of competition at the 2005 Clemson Opener on Friday. Brown ran the fastest time in the preliminaries of the event with a NCAA Championship provisional qualifying mark of 6.65. Overall, 12 student-athletes from over 30 schools posted provisional or automatic qualifying marks. Brown will compete in the finals of the 60m dash on Saturday.

Clemson’s Danny Alge finished in seventh place in the men’s 35lb weight throw with a mark of 58’7.5″. He threw for 57’1″ in the preliminaries of the event.

Also advancing to the finals in the 60m is Clemson’s Travis Padgett who ran a time of 6.73 on Friday. In the 60m hurdles, Ryan Koontz qualified for Saturday’s finals with a time of 7.98, Lydell Perry qualified with a time of 8.15, and Rashad Gardner qualified with a time of 8.30.

In the 60m dash, Mike Feathers posted a time of 7.76. Roy Cheney finished with a time of 8.34 in the 60m hurdles, Andrew Porter had a time of 8.87, and Mike Feathers had a time of 8.88.

The second day of competition will kick off at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track. The final event is scheduled for 4:40 PM.
