CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Clemson women’s track & field team totaled 74 points to earn a fourth-place finish at the 2018 ACC Track & Field Championships at the University of Miami’s Cobb Stadium Saturday. On the men’s side, the Tigers accumulated 56 points, good for a fifth-place finish, after jumping Virginia in the standings by one point on the last event of the night in the men’s 4x400m relay.
The women were led by Rebekah Smith, who tallied a team-high 13.5 points after placing third in both the 100m and 200m dashes as well as running the second leg for the third-place women’s 4x100m relay (44.37). Smith ran personal-bests in both the 100m and 200m dashes. The sophomore posted a time of 11.28 seconds in the 100m dash, putting her tied for second-best time in CU history. In the 200m dash, Smith crossed the finish line at the 23.15-second mark to earn one of her three medals on the day. With her performance Saturday, Smith garnered First Team All-ACC status in both the 100m and 200m dashes and Second Team All-ACC alongside Torie Robinson, Ebony Williams and Markeeta Thomas for their efforts in the 4x100m relay.
On the men’s side, Cordell Lamb led all Tiger scorers, medaling in the 200m (20.68), 400m (46.05) and 4x400m relay (3:08.46) along with Deonte Tolbert, Deron Gordon and John Lewis. Lamb claimed First Team All-ACC status in both individual events and Second Team honors in the 4x400m relay for its third-place finish. For the meet, Lamb totaled 15.5 points.
Kamryn McIntosh also made history for Clemson Saturday in the women’s 800m. The freshman turned in a personal-best 2:03.91, which is good for No. 3 all-time in program history. Joining McIntosh as a First Team All-ACC representative was senior Fellan Ferguson, who placed third with a time of 2:04.95. In the men’s race, junior John Lewis placed second overall as he ran 1:48.36 to earn First Team honors.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, sophomore Lakeisha Warner turned in her best career time of 57.23 seconds, putting her at No. 5 in the Clemson record book. Additionally, junior Markeeta Thomas placed fifth with a time of 58.46 seconds. Warner earned First Team honors, while Thomas was named Second Team All-ACC.
Senior Grace Barnett registered her season best of 4:14.50 in the 1500m as she placed third overall. With her finish in the event, Barnett claimed her first career First Team All-ACC distinction outdoors.
The men’s triple jump combined to score 12 points for the Tiger men with the production of Jeremiah Green, DJ Ledell and Ishmael Kamara. Green re-wrote his own program record Saturday, despite an apparent lower-body injury causing Green to pull up on his fourth jump. Green’s best mark of the night, 16.06m, came on his sixth and final leap, moving him from third to second place. Additionally, Ledell, who achieved his personal best and a sixth-place finish in the long jump Friday, did exactly that in Saturday’s triple jump. Ledell, like Green, achieved his best jump of 15.55m on his sixth jump of the night. He was also the only freshman to qualify for finals. Kamara added one point for the Tigers with his eighth-place finish with his season-best jump, 15.21m.
Up next, Clemson will wait for the official NCAA East Regional qualifying list before heading to Tampa, Fla., for the NCAA East Regional meet, which is slated for May 24-26.
