10 Tigers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

CLEMSON, S.C. – Ten Tigers were named to the All-ACC Academic Baseball Team, announced Wednesday by the league office. Benjamin Blackwell (athletic leadership) and Blake Wright (economics) made the All-ACC Academic team for the second time.

First-time selections were Joe Allen (communication), B.J. Bailey (communication), Riley Bertram (athletic leadership), Nick Clayton (parks, recreation & tourism management), Jack Crighton (pre-business), Reed Garris (parks, recreation & tourism management), Nathan Hall (communication) and Jacob Jarrell (computer information systems).

Requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 GPA for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative GPA during one’s academic career. In addition, position players must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests and pitchers in at least 20 percent.

Blackwell (Fairfax, Va.) led the ACC steals (27) and hit .301 on the season, while Wright (Belleair, Fla.) totaled eight homers and 45 RBIs.

Allen (Hampton Falls, N.H.) had a 3-0 record, one save and a 3.94 ERA in 17 appearances (four starts). Bailey (Woodruff, S.C.) had a 2-2 record and 4.02 ERA in 17 relief appearances. Bertram (Zionsville, Ind.) hit .282 with 44 RBIs and 18 steals. Clayton (York, S.C.) had an 8-0 record and a 3.17 ERA in 24 relief appearances.

With Crighton (Rochester Hills, Mich.) in the starting lineup, Clemson had a 15-1 record. Garris (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) had a 4-0 record and team-best 2.12 ERA in 27 relief appearances. Hall (Lexington, S.C.) batted .243 while leading the team in games off the bench (23). Jarrell (Florence, S.C.) totaled five homers and 18 RBIs.
