Tigers Fall at #14 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 14 Texas Tech outmatched the Clemson men’s tennis team on Friday evening at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas, defeating the Tigers by a score of 6-1. The Red Raiders remained undefeated, improving to 9-0 with the win, while the Tigers drop to 1-4 on the year with the loss.

“Credit goes to Texas Tech. They executed better at the start and finish of today’s match. We are proud of Brent Lett and how he competed out there today,” said Assistant Coach John Boetsch. “Our goal is to get better with each day and this week we made strides working on specific areas with each guy.  We saw that work pay off at times today, and will look to keep improving each day.”

Texas Tech claimed the doubles point against the Tigers, securing victories on courts one and two. Alex Favrot and Daffra Sanon fell at No. 2, 6-1, before Robert Dudley and Luke Johnson fell to their Red Raider opponent, 6-2, at No. 1. Austin Ansari and Christian Harris were battling, but down 5-3 at No. 3, when play was halted.

The Red Raiders claimed the first three singles points to clinch the team victory, before Lett registered the lone singles win for the Tigers. The junior from Elgin, S.C. dropped the first set, 6-3, before coming back emphatically to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 singles. Sanon, at No. 3 singles, and Ansari, at No. 4, both forced third sets before falling. Favrot, playing on Court 1 against the eighth-ranked player in the nation, Felipe Soares, battled to a first-set tiebreak against the nationally-ranked foe before ultimately falling.

After five straight matches away from home to open the season, the Tigers now return home for 12 consecutive contests, the first of which is on Sunday, Jan. 31 against College of Charleston. The match against the Cougars begins at 10 a.m. at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center.
