CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior Arturo Pinazo’s three-set win at No. 5 singles clinched a 4-3 victory for the Clemson men’s tennis team over Boston College on Friday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. With the win, the Tigers improved to 12-11 overall and 3-5 in the ACC, while the Eagles fell to 3-13 (0-8 ACC).
Alex Favrot and Luke Johnson won their No. 1 doubles match by a score of 6-4, however, the Tigers lost the doubles point, as Boston College claimed wins on Courts 2 and 3. With their win, Favrot and Johnson improved to 10-5 on the season in doubles play.
Johnson continued his success into singles play, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 to even the match at 1-1. After a lost at No. 2 singles, Favrot and Robert Dudley won at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively, to give Clemson a 3-2 lead. Christian Harris lost in three-sets on Court 6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, which left the score tied at 3-3 and the result of the match in the hands of Arturo Pinazo. The native of Malaga, Spain lost his first set, 4-6, but roared back to win the next two sets in convincing fashion, 6-3, 6-2, and claim victory for Clemson.
The Tigers have one day to rest before returning to the courts on Sunday, April 3 when they host Miami. First serve for the match against the Hurricanes is set for 11 a.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
