CHAPEL HILL, N.C. â The Clemson Tigers (8-5, 1-0) womenâs basketball team continues ACC play with a New Yearâs Eve game against the North Carolina Tar Heels (8-4, 0-0). Tipoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. Tom Werme and Isis Young will be on the call on CW, William Qualkinbush and Jim Davis can be heard locally on 105.5 The Roar and on the Clemson Tigers app.
Clemson enters this game in first place in the ACC. This is the 92nd meeting between the two longtime ACC rivals, Clemson is looking to notch its 10th road win against the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
The Tigers wrapped up their non-conference slate with a 73-50 win against ETSU on December 22. Clemson closes non-conference play with an 8-5 (1-0) record. Clemson established a strong homecourt advantage and starts the 2023-24 season with a 7-1 record in Littlejohn Coliseum.
Clemson is led by grad student Amari Robinson who won her first ACC Player of the Week award following a 35-point effort against Georgia State two weeks ago. Robinson is averaging 16.9 points per game and is has an unbelievably efficient 59/48/80 shooting split. Sheâs second on the team in rebounding with 6.6 boards per contest.
Ruby Whitehorn continues her stellar play for the Tigers. She has led CU in scoring in Clemsonâs last two contests, and is averaging 17.5 points per game on 55% shooting from the floor, 33% from outside, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per outing over that same span.
Point guard Day Harris is also having a career year. The fifth-year guard out of Ohio is averaging career highs in field goal percentage (46%) and three-point shooting (35%).
