CLEMSON S.C. – The No. 19/18 Clemson Tigers (10-5, 2-5 ACC) will conclude their regular season away schedule on Saturday, April 15 as they travel to Blacksburg, Va. to face the Virginia Tech Hokies (8-6, 3-4 ACC) at noon. The game will be streamed live on ACCNX and live stats will be available here.
Clemson enters Saturday’s game ranked in the top 25 for the fifth straight week. The Tigers are coming off of a 19-10 loss to the No. 1 Syracuse Orange on Saturday, April 8. Hanna Hilcoff, Gianna New, Chloe Willard, and Miya Scanlan all registered two goals. Goalie Emily Lamparter faced 28 shots on cage and came away with nine total saves. Syracuse shot the ball 40 times while Clemson shot 27 times. The Tigers came away with four caused turnovers and found 100% success on its clear attempts.
Virginia Tech has been competitive in the ACC so far this season as it lost narrowly to Boston College and defeated Duke in overtime. The Hokies currently have a three game win streak with their most recent win being over Old Dominion on Tuesday, April 11. Olivia Vergano is Virginia Tech’s leading scorer with 32 total goals. On the defensive side of the ball, Jordan Tilly leads the Hokies in caused turnovers with 19. In addition, Freshman Midfielder Ella Rishko earned Virginia Tech’s first ACC Offensive Player of the Week this past week.
Currently Clemson sits at the No. 7 spot in the ACC standings, which is just one spot below Virginia Tech. Therefore a win over Virginia Tech will push Clemson up to No. 6. If the Tigers win out the rest of the season and finish ranked No. 6 in the ACC, then Clemson will secure a bye in the ACC tournament. However a loss to either Virginia Tech or Pittsburgh will most likely result in Clemson hosting the first round of the ACC tournament on Sunday, April 23.
