Duke defeats Clemson 102-45

DURHAM, NC-Alana Beard scored 28 points and teammate Monique Currie added 13 in leading third-ranked Duke to a 102-45 win over Clemson in an Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball game at Durham, NC Friday night.

With the win, Duke improves to 23-3 overall, and 14-1 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 17-9 overall, and 7-8 in league play.

Beard finished the game 11-13 from the field and 2-3 from the three-point line. She also was 4-4 from the free throw line. Beard finished with nine rebounds, two blocked shots, one assist, and three steals.

Clemson was led in scoring by Julie Adhold. Khaili Sanders led the Lady Tigers in rebounding with six.

The Blue Devils outrebounded the Lady Tigers 46-30, and outscored Clemson 44-18 in the paint. Clemson was also troubled with turnovers as the Lady Tigers committed 24, and Duke scored 33 points off the Clemson turnovers.

In the first half, Duke jumped to a 16-1 lead with 16:18 left behind Currie’s seven points. The Blue Devils eventually would take a 20 point lead, 38-18 with 4:10 remaining as Vicki Krapohl hit a three-point shot. From this point, Duke outscored Clemson 10-2 and took a 48-20 lead at the half.

In the second half, Duke outscored Clemson 23-10 in the first 9:28 to take a 71-30 advantage as Currie hit a layup with 11:32 left in the game.

The Lady Tigers will play host to Maryland on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Lady Tigers final regular season game.
