Cross Country Competes at Florida State XC Open

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Clemson’s cross country team competed in its second competition of the season on Friday morning at the Florida State XC Open. The Tigers pulled together a strong showing that saw the women finish seventh out of 29 teams and the men earn 12th place out of 26 teams.

For the second-straight meet, the top performer on the women’s side was freshman Fabiane Meyer, whose 6k time of 21:31.1 was 20th best in the entire field of almost 300 runners. Jackson Leech was the first of the Clemson men to cross the finish line, posting an impressive 8k time of 25:23.0.

Another notable performers include Samuel Garringer (25:35.0), Josie Wirtz (22:31.2), Leah Disher (22:49.2) and Michael Smith (26:03.5). The Tigers will be back in action in two weeks on Friday Oct. 1 at Notre Dame, the site of this year’s ACC Championships, for the Joe Piane Invitational.
