Clemson Head Coach Brad Brownell

Overall Thoughts: “Overall, I was pleased with our guys’ effort tonight. We got off to a great start. I thought our starters played well. We would have liked to see Demontez (Stitt) get a few more minutes but we were ready to play and I thought Western Carolina was ready to play. They have kids that were in this building before and were excited to be here and our guys did a good job of keeping them from getting into their sets offensively. We did a good job of finding a way to get the ball inside to take advantage of our side.”

On handling Western Carolina’s ability: “There are ebbs and flows of basketball. I thought us getting off to a good start really helped. There was a little spot in the middle where they made a run but I was pleased with our guys’ ability to get stops.”

On being ready to play: “I think the biggest thing that I was impressed with was that we were ready to play. Our guys came in energized and excited and really got after it.”

On offensive production: “It was okay. We struggled getting into the flow but we scored a lot of points and didn’t turn the ball over much.”

Western Carolina Head Coach Larry Hunter

Overall thoughts on the game: “I was impressed with the energy level of Clemson, especially in the first half. They played very well together. I thought they worked well inside-out and you could tell they really worked on reversing the basketball. They really hurt us and got the early lead with some offensive rebounding. They’re just a very fundamentally sound basketball team. They played well that first half with a lot of energy and it was very impressive. They shot very well. When you get good shots, you shoot a good percentage and they got good shots.”

On Clemson forward Devin Booker: “I liked him last year as a player. I watched him on TV a couple of times and watched him develop as a player. He’s a little different than his brother, but he’s talented. He’s very good offensively and just a very good player.”

On what can be taken from this game: “We’re just a very young team. We’re evolving and getting better. This was a tall order for us to start with. We graduated five seniors and we’re just re-tooling.. I’m not really pleased, but I’m not too discouraged.”
