CLEMSON, SC — The Clemson men’s track team holds a 24-point lead and the Auburn women’s team has a two point advantage after the first day of competition Friday in the Clemson Invitational at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Clemson men scored 46 points in three events, while Western Carolina is in second place with 22 points. In a tight women’s competition, Auburn finished the evening with 23 points, Western Carolina recorded 21 points, and Clemson had 20 points.
In the men’s 60m hurdles preliminaries Clemson’s Todd Matthews ran a time of 8.25 and Mark Jellison finished in 8.42 to qualify for Saturday’s finals. In the women’s 60m hurdles Clemson’s Nikkie Bouyer recorded a time of 8.45 to qualify for the event’s finals. The Tigers qualified three individuals for the finals of the women’s 60 meter dash: Shekera Weston (7.40), Terri Robinson (7.62) and Simone Brown (7.68).
The Tiger men’s team won the distance medley relay in 10:21.42, while the women’s team took first with a time of 12:07.02.
In the field events, South Carolina State’s Lamin Drammeh won the men’s long jump (24′ 9 3/4″) and Shannaine Osbourne won the women’s long jump (19′ 1 1/2″). Clemson freshman Kai Maull placed second in the long jump with a mark of 24′ 5″.
Tiger freshman Keith Rzewuski won the shot put with a mark of 52′ 3 1/4″, and Clemson sophomore Jamine Moton, the defending ACC champion, took first place in the women’s competition with a mark of 46′ 11 1/2″.
Field event competition begins Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Running events will commence at 1 p.m. and continue through 7 p.m.
