CLEMSON COACH JACK LEGGETT

“I am very excited and proud of our baseball team. We have worked extremely hard since the disappointment of last years super regional. All the hard work has paid off and I am very pleased for all of the players. I thought the key today was the fact we fell behind early, but we didn”t panic and we kept our poise. Steve Reba came in the ballgame and shut things down. He gave us a tremendous relief appearance.

“Offensively, I was very pleased with the way we hung in there against a pretty tough lefthander. We made some good adjustments and put the ball in play. I thought we put pressure on them all weekend long with the way we hustled and the way we ran the bases. I also thought we played very good defense over the course of the weekend.

“Henri Stanley came in and got three very big hits. Because he is a senior I am very happy for him and all the other seniors. We played good baseball all weekend and we are very excited to be going to Omaha.”

MISSISSIPPI STATE COACH PAT MCMAHON

“Things have not come very easy for our club this year and this really hurts. I think you saw the effort, the will, and the character of these young men and they have represented Mississippi State in a first class manor.

“You have to give Clemson a whole lot of credit. They are first class, they play very hard, they are very athletic, and they can manufacture runs. Our inability to throw the ball in the strike zone over the course of time was a huge factor in the ball game. Every time we walk on the field our mission and our goal is to win. That was our mission, but Clemson is an outstanding ball club.

“We would like to wish Clemson the very best of luck in Omaha. Clemson University and their fans have been wonderful hosts and we really appreciate every one involved with this tournament.”
