CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Women’s Tennis (8-2) bounced back in resounding fashion with a 4-0 victory over Memphis (0-6) and a 7-0 win over College of Charleston (0-4) at Duckworth on Saturday. This is the second time this season the Tigers have swept a doubleheader without losing a game, the first coming over Charlotte and Western Carolina on Jan. 18.
Clemson 4, Memphis 0
Clemson continued its doubles success, as sophomore Gaia Parravicini and senior Romana Cisovska took care of Memphis’ Natalia Koppova and Clemence Thouard after Talia Neilson-Gatenby and Artemis Aslanisvili won by walk over due to injury, giving Clemson its eighth doubles point on the year.
In singles play, Clemson kept the momentum rolling. Parravicini won her match by walk over, giving Clemson a 2-0 lead. On court five, Aslanisvili lost just two games en route to a two-set victory over Memphis’ Rebecca Frant. In similar fashion, Neilson-Gatenby made quick work of Thouard, 6-3, 6-0 to give No. 21 Clemson its seventh win of the season. When Clemson clinched the fourth point of the day, Okuwaki led big, 6-0, 4-1 and Cisovska had a 6-1, 3-3 advantage, but both matches went unfinished.
Clemson 7, College of Charleston 0
In their second match of the day, the Tigers once again picked up the doubles point. In the three matches, Clemson only lost three games. Neilson-Gatenby and Aslanisvili made quick work of Santos and Severance, downing the pair of Cougars 6-1. To follow that up a couple minutes later, Parravicini and Cisovska won their second doubles match of the day, dominating Riley Trinkle and Oziera Ahmad, 6-0. Groen and Okuwaki were ahead of Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato 4-1 at the time of the clinch, and the Tigers emerged from doubles play up 1-0.
The Tigers carried momentum from the rest of the day into singles play against College of Charleston as Clemson only lost one set through the entirety of singles play. Aslanisvili was the first to finish, defeating Riley Trinkle 6-1, 6-1. Shortly after, Nelson-Gatenby wrapped up a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Marra Bruce to put Clemson on the brink of clinching a victory. The Tigers would not have to wait long, as Parravicini finished a 6-2, 6-4 win over Olivia Bull to clinch a Clemson its second dual victory of the day. With the match already in hand, Bhakta, Okuwaki, and Groen each earned victories to polish off a sweep of the Cougars.
UP NEXT: Clemson is back at Duckworth tomorrow for matches against UNC-Greensboro and Queens. Sunday will kick off with a 10:30 a.m. match with UNC-Greensboro followed by a 3 p.m. match against Queens.
