CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s team is set for multiple student-athletes to compete in the ITA Carolina Regional Championships. The tournament will take place at the University of North Carolina from Oct. 17-21. For information regarding draws and results, visit the ITA website.
Graduate Sophia Hatton, Junior Romana Cisovska, Sophomore Ria Bhakta, and Freshmen Artemis Aslanisvili and Amelie Smejkalova will compete in main draw singles. Freshmen Candela Yecora and Gaia Parravicini will compete in qualifying singles.
Amelie Smejkalova and Sophia Hatton compete in duos, Freshmen Sophie Clayton and Kinsey Crawford, Ria Bhakta, and Artemis Aslanisvili, and Romana Cisovska and Gaia Parravicini.
The tournament will produce two singles and one doubles team qualifier for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship, which will take place in November 2024.
The Tigers are looking to continue their success from the ITA All-American tournament, which resulted in six Tiger wins. During the ITA All-American tournament, Davis defeated Georgia Tech’s Alejandra Cruz, 6-3, 6-3, and Hatton bested SMU’s Drew Morris, 6-3, 7-5. Following Hatton’s success, the duo of Bhakta and Davis defeated No.75 ranked duo Vivan Ovrootsky and Shachf Lieberman from Texas, 6-3, 6-2.
The Tigers continued their success in the following days of the tournament with Smejkalova’s defeat of Maryland’s Danielle Hack, 7-5, 6-4, followed by Smejkalova and Hatton’s doubles win against McKenna Schaefbaue and Kasia Treiber from Illinois, 6-3, 6-3. Finally, Bhakta won when her opponent, Gabby Rivera, was walked over by injury.
