Women’s Track Wins Clemson Invitational Title

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s track and field team won the Clemson Invitational this weekend at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Tigers scored 141 points for the victory, edging out Western Carolina, who finished second with 90 points. Clemson took first place in six of eight running events.

Sophomore Shekera Weston, an All-American last season as a part of Clemson’s 4x400m relay team, won the 60m in 7.40, and freshman Kyana Elder placed seventh with a time of 7.80. Elder won the 60m hurdles in 8.67.

South Alabama’s Marie Woodward won the 300m with a time of 39.69, and Clemson sophomore Shonda Cutchin ran a time of 1:15.65 for the victory in the 500m. Tiger sophomore Simone Brown placed third in the event (1:18.13), and sophomore Julie Stackhouse placed fifth for Clemson (1:18.28). Clemson’s Helena Janecic placed eighth with a time of 1:18.98.

Clemson senior Julianne Littmann won the 800m in 2:12.49, and senior Brantley Epps placed second (2:12.79). In the mile run, Tiger junior Beth Ahern placed first with a time of 5:01.74, and sophomore Erika van Reenan was sixth at 5:16.45. South Alabama’s Rebecca Beverly won the 3000m in 10:07.74, and Clemson’s Anne Stowell placed second at 10:12.31. In the 4x400m relay, Clemson won with a time of 3:48.59.

In the field events, Clemson sophomore Jamine Moton won the weight throw with a mark of 56’10”, while senior Ann Marie McAuley was third with a throw of 45’5″. Western Carolina’s Kamilah Gabriel won the triple jump with a jump of 39’9 3/4″.

The Tigers will compete at the Virginia Tech Classic in Blacksburg next weekend.
