CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson Women’s Tennis and Head Coach Boomer Saia announced one signee, Sophie Clayton, to the fall of 2024 class.
Clayton’s signing comes off the November 13th announcement of two other athletes: Artemis Aslanisvili and Amélie Šmejkalová. These three are Saia’s first signees to his inaugural class.
“We are beyond excited for Sophie to join our program,” said Saia. “She is a driven tennis player who will come in and make an impact on our team. We believe all three of our players have their best tennis ahead of them, and we can’t wait for Sophie to join the Clemson Women’s Tennis family!”

The Tigers round out its signing class with Sophia Clayton, a South Carolina local. Growing up a Clemson Tiger fan this has been a dream come true for Clayton. In high school, Clayton was named to the All-Region team in 19’, 20’, 21’, 22’, and 23’.Additionally, she was on the All-State team in 20’, 21’, and 22’. In 2023, she was also named to the North and South All-Star Selection. Academically, Clayton is a part of the National Honor Society. She received the Academic Excellence Award and is on the all-A honor roll. Lastly, Clayton is an AP Scholar.
Clayton chose Clemson because ”I have been a Clemson fan as long as I can remember. After visiting the facilities and meeting the coaches, I am confident that the Clemson family culture will help me develop to my fullest potential both on and off the court.“
Saia said on the addition of Clayton: “We are so excited to welcome Sophie to the Tiger family! Sophie is a Clemson Tiger through and through, and she will be an incredible addition to our team! Her eagerness And work ethic will go a long way in helping grow our culture!”
