CLEMSON, S.C. – The 60th ranked Clemson’s Women’s Tennis team was defeated by the 16th ranked University of South Carolina Wednesday afternoon, bringing their season record to 4-13. The Gamecocks improve their record to 13-3.
Clemson freshman Carmina Giraldo fell to South Carolina’s Katarina Markovski in 3 sets by a score of 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 at number one singles. In the two spot, senior Kate-Maree Mair of Clemson was defeated by Celine Regnier, 6-0, 6-2. Junior Tiger Catherine Galvin lost a three set battle to Jennifer Radman of the Gamecock’s, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at three singles. Clemson’s Cecilia Hincapie was shut down by her USC opponent Leigh Eichelberger, 6-2, 6-3. Clemson sophomore Cinny Clausen fell to Lynn-Yin Tan of South Carolina, 6-3, 6-0 at five singles. In the six slot, Christina Oldock of Clemson was defeated by Tamara Sutton by a score of 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles action, the Tiger’s freshman-senior duo of Carmina Giraldo and Kate-Maree Mair fell to Mandy Carvalho and Radman, 8-4. At two doubles, Clemson’s Hincapie and Clausen ended the Gamecock’s streak with a win over Valentine Vernaz and Regnier, 8-3. At three doubles, Oldock and Meredith Chandler of Clemson were overcome by Eichelberger and Tan of South Carolina, 8-0.
Clemson (4-13) will take on Florida State in Clemson on Sunday morning April 11 at 10 am.
