Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 2 Duke

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson’s Women’s Tennis team was defeated by Duke University Saturday afternoon, bringing their record to 4-9.

Clemson freshman Carmina Giraldo fell to Duke’s Vanessa Webb at number one singles in 3 sets by a score of 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. In the two spot, senior Kate-Maree Mair of Clemson lost to Kristin Sanderson, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Tiger Catherine Galvin was defeated at three singles by Duke’s Megan Miller, 7-5, 6-1. Karen Goldstein of Duke was victorious over Cecilia Hincapie of Clemson by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Clemson sophomores Cinny Clausen and Christina Oldock fell at five and six singles to Duke’s Kathy Sell (6-7, 6-1, 6-3) and Ioana Plesu (6-1, 6-4) respectively.

In doubles action, the Tiger’s freshman-senior duo of Carmina Giraldo and Kate-Maree Mair fell to Webb and Goldstein, 8-1. At two doubles, the Tigers Cinny Clausen and Cecilia Hincapie defeated Sanderson and Brooke Siebel by a score of 8-3. Duke’s Miller and Sell combined efforts at number three doubles to defeat Clemson’s Christina Oldock and Catherine Galvin, 8-0.

Clemson (4-9) will take on North Carolina Sunday, March 28 at 1:00pm in Clemson.
