Women’s Tennis Defeats North Carolina

March 25, 2000

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated North Carolina 6-3 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on Thursday.

Sophomore Carmina Giraldo defeated Marlene Mejia 6-1, 6-4 at flight one, and senior Cath Galvin defeated Jessica Zaganczyk 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 at number two singles. Freshman Renata Brito beat Kendrick Bunn 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 at number three singles, while rookie Laurence Jayet took a 6-4, 6-0 win over Caroline Hill at flight four.

In doubles action, Giraldo and Galvin defeated Bunn and Pinchbeck 8-6 at flight one, while Brito and Jayet defeated Mejia and Hill 8-6 at number two doubles.

The Tigers, ranked 39th by the ITA, moved to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the victory.
