Women’s Tennis Defeats Furman

CLEMSON, S.C. –The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated Furman, 6-3, Thursday afternoon in Clemson. Freshman Carminia Giraldo defeated Furman sophomore Meredith Moore 6-0, 6-0 at number one singles. Paladin freshman Megan Dunigan, ranked 100th nationally, defeated Tiger senior Kate-Maree Mair 6-1, 6-2 at flight two singles.

The Tigers won at flights three, four and five singles. Junior Catherine Galvin defeated freshman Gene Holman 6-7(1), 5-7, 6-1 at three singles, while senior Cecilia Hincapie defeated sophomore Sara Rosenblum 6-1, 6-2 at four singles. Sophomore Christina Oldock defeated junior Jarrell Starnes 6-3, 6-2 at five singles. Furman senior Jennifer Connell won by default at six singles.

In doubles competition, the Clemson duo of Mair and Giraldo defeated Furman’s Moore and Rosenblum 8-5 at number one. The Paladin team of Starnes and Dunigan defeated Clemson’s Oldock and Galvin 8-2 at number two doubles, and the Tiger team of Meredith Chandler and Hincapie defeated Connell and Holman 8-1 at flight three doubles.

The Tigers (4-6) will travel to Tennessee Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. match. Furman (5-4) will play host to the College of Charleston on Saturday.
