Women’s Tennis Defeated by University of South Alabama

MOBILE, AL-The Clemson women’s tennis team was defeated by the University of South Alabama, 7-2, Sunday morning in Mobile, giving the Tigers their first loss of the season.

At number one singles, Clemson junior Catherine Galvin was defeated by Martina Ondrejkova, 6-4, 7-6. At two singles, senior Cecilia Hincapie was victorious over USA’s Iva Puflerova, 6-0, 6-2. Clemson lost at three singles with freshman Carmina Giraldo falling to Lenka Jakeboka, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Clemson sophomore Cinny Clausen fell to South Alabama’s Vonda Novakova, 6-2, 6-4 at number four singles. Clemson sophomore Christina Oldock was victorious over USA’s Marketa Blazkova 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at five singles. At six singles, Clemson senior Meredith Chandler was defeated by Caroline Toyre, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

In doubles action, Clemson’s Galvin and senior Kate-Maree Mair lost to Ondrejkova and Puflerova, 8-6. At number two doubles, Hincapie and Giraldo were defeated by USA’s Gobey and Toyre, 9-7. Clemson sophomores Oldock and Clausen fell to Blazkova and Jakeboka, 8-2, at the number three doubles position.
