Women’s Golf Finishes Tied Third at FSU Match-Up, Valdes Tied Eighth

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team finished their weekend stint in Panama City Beach, Fla. in a tie for third place alongside No. 12 Alabama following their 304-310-300 team scores to bring their three round total to 914.

Alongside their match-up partner LSU, the Tigers combined to lead the pairings across all three rounds to claim the match-up title. 

Ana Paula Valdes powered the Tigers through their lowest scoring round of the tournament with a one-over par score, bringing her into a tie for eighth place across all individuals. Callista Rice improved on her first 36 holes, going three-over par on the final day after a strong two-under score on the front nine. 

Savannah Grewal and Lindsay May both tallied scores of 76, each shooting two-over on both sides of the scorecard. After leading the team after the first two rounds, Ivy Shepherd fired a six-over final round, remaining in the top-25 of the field with a 13-over three round score.

Four of the five individuals in the lineup finished among the top-25. 

Playing as an individual, Alexandra Swayne finished the two-day tournament with a final round 77 and 37th on the player leaderboard. 

Head Coach Kelley Hester’s squad wrapped up competition in the top three for scoring on par threes and total pars while Rice, Shepherd and May ranked among the top five for scoring on par threes, fours and fives, respectively.

The Tigers return to competition on Mar. 13-15 as they head west to Mesa, Ariz. for the Clover Cup. The Clover Cup will be the final bout of travel for Clemson before returning home for the Clemson Invitational on Mar. 27-29.
