Women’s Basketball Holds 2011 Awards and Appreciation Banquet

April 13, 2011

The Clemson women’s basketball program held its Annual Awards and Appreciation Banquet on Sunday at the Madren Conference Center in Clemson. The team handed out awards for performance on and off the court during the 2010-11 school year and honored four graduating players.

Former Head Coach Jim Davis was the featured speaker at the event, and gave moving words of wisdom to players, coaches, and fans throughout his talk. Davis coached at Clemson from 1987 until 2005, and coached current head coach Itoro Coleman during all four of her seasons.

Kirstyn Wright and Sthefany Thomas took home Co-MVP honors for the season. Wright led the Tigers in scoring at 12.2 ppg, while Thomas was second at 11.8 ppg. Wright finished the season third on the team in rebounding, second in assists, and first in steals, free throw percentage, and three-point percentage.

Wright also took home the Best Defensive Player Award. Junior Lindsey Mason also garnered two awards, earning the nod as the team’s Most Improved Player, and was also recognized with the Academic Achievement Award.

Barbara Kennedy-Dixon was honored with the Spirit of the Tiger Award. Dixon, the ACC’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, is back to her duties as the Senior Women’s Administrator after suffering a stroke during the summer of 2010.

Other award winners included Jasmine Tate (Tiger Tuff Award) and Kelia Shelton (6th Player), manager Stephanie Peagler (Coaches Award), and Kaitlyn Cranshaw (Air Force ROTC Award).

Graduating Players Sthefany Thomas, Wright, and Bryelle Smith also addressed those in attendance with some final remarks.
