Women Finish Second, Men Ninth at Live in Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Clemson Tigers completed their third meet of the season on Saturday after finishing the Live in Lou Classic in Louisville, Ky at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. The Clemson women finished second overall in the women’s 5k while the men secured a ninth place overall finish the 8k.

“It was good to see our top four guys run under 25 minutes,” Head Coach Vicky Pounds said. “I wish we could have mixed it up more with West Virginia but it was another impressive performance for our top three on the women’s side.”

In the women’s 5k, the Tigers secured both second and third place as freshman Silvia Jelelgo was the first to cross the line for Clemson and second overall. Jelelgo finished with a time of 16:14.2. Earning third was sophomore Judy Kosgei who finished the event at 16:19.3. Both Jelelgo and Kosgei have finished in the top three in all three meets this season for the Tigers.

On the men’s side, the Tigers were able to put their talents to the test as they ran their first 8k of the season. For the rest of the 2024 campaign and into the conference meet, the men will racing the full 8k distance.

Finishing first for the men was senior Sawyer Dagan as this marks the second meet in-a-row that he has led the team. With a finish of 24:02.3, Dagan earned fourth overall in the 8k. The senior put himself out there with a dominant start while hanging in the chase pack until passing five competitors in the final kick.

Up next, the Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the Crimson Classic on Friday, October 18. For all the most up-to-date information regarding Clemson cross country, visit ClemsonTigers.com and follow @ClemsonTrackXC on Twitter and Instagram.
