Williams Named ACC Women’s Freshman of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. – For the first time in her collegiate career, newcomer Shanque Williams was named the ACC Women’s Freshman of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The honor comes after Williams’ performances at the Bob Pollock Invitational this past weekend. The Tigers have officially picked up four Freshman of the Week awards on the women’s side this season.

The freshman finished fifth in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 53.51, which ties her for the sixth fastest time in program history in that event. The time ranks Williams No. 3 in the ACC and 35th in the nation. In addition to the 400 meters, Williams ran the second leg of the 4×400 relay for the Clemson “A” team as the Tigers recorded a season’s best time of 3:34.17 which placed them at No. 4 on Clemson’s all-time list.

Clemson holds the top time in the ACC for the 4×400 relay and rank No. 13 in the nation for the event.

Up next, the Tigers will host the Tiger Paw Invitational which marks Clemson’s fifth and final home meet of the season. Events are set to begin on Friday, February 14 and conclude on Saturday, February 15.
