Whitt to Transfer

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson forward Vincent Whitt has decided to transfer to another school for his final year of eligibility, head basketball coach Larry Shyatt announced Tuesday evening.

“Vincent Whitt has decided to transfer to another institution,” Shyatt said. “We have given him an open release.”

Whitt played three years for the Tigers and was a part or three Clemson teams that went to postseason play, two NCAAs and one NIT. He played in just 18 games this past season, 11 as a starter. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game in 1998-99.

For his career, Whitt played in 83 games, 17 as a starter. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game over those 83 contests. He had a career high 18 points against UNC-Asheville this past season. He had one of his better games in his final game as a Tiger, 13 points on 6-9 shooting at Virginia on January 17th. Another highlight of his career was a 17-point performance against South Carolina during the 1997-98 season. He was substituting for an injured Terrell McIntyre in that contest and led Clemson to a six-point victory over the sixth-ranked Gamecocks.

Whitt was suspended for a violation of team rules on January 20th and missed the final 17 games of the season. He was suspended from playing in games during this period, but did practice with the team.

Shyatt did not indicate where Whitt would transfer to for the 1999-2000 season.
