Women’s Basketball Shoots Past Alcorn State, 77-46

Daytona Beach, Fla. – Behind a 21-point second quarter and four threes from Kaylee Sticker, Clemson downed Alcorn State 77-46 on Saturday night inside the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. The win moves the Tigers to 3-5 on the year, while the loss drops the Lady Braves to 3-6.

Sticker led the Tigers with a career-high 16 points on the night (4-8 from three), while Kobi Thornton had 15. Kendall Spray was also in double-figures with 10. Clemson shot .414 from the floor and .880 from the charity stripe (22-25) on the night.

Defensively, Clemson held the Lady Braves to .231 shooting (15-65) and .128 (4-22) from three. Alcorn State also shot .667 from the free throw line.

Alcorn State forced 11 Clemson turnovers in the first quarter to jump out to a 19-13 lead after 10:00. The Braves pushed the lead to six, before a 9-0 Clemson run, that included six free throws, gave the Tigers their first lead of the day at 24-21. Clemson forced 10 Alcorn State turnovers in the second quarter and converted 14 second-chance points to take a 34-28 lead into halftime.

Clemson used two threes early in the third to push the lead to 12 at the media timeout, then finished the quarter with a 15-point lead. The Tigers continued to stretch the lead in the fourth, as Sticker and Spray would trade threes and push the Clemson lead to 31.

Clemson is back in action on Wednesday night, heading to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
