CARY, NC – Adam Lee defeated Dominique Maden 7-6, 7-6 at number-four singles in clinching the match and leading 10th-seeded Wake Forest to a 4-3 victory over seventh-seeded Clemson in the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament at Cary, NC Thursday afternoon.
With the win, Wake Forest improves to 14-14 overall, while Clemson falls to 9-14 this season. Earlier this season, the Tigers defeated Wake Forest 4-3 on April 13, in Winston-Salem, NC.
Clemson won the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers won two singles matches and was dominating the contest, 3-0. The Tigers’ Hunter Harrington defeated Sam Wells at number-five singles 6-2, 6-3 and Zachary Rigsby of Clemson defeated Alex Tsai 6-2, 6-2 at number-six singles.
From this point, Wake Forest won four straight singles matches to claim the victory. Daniel Kreyman defeated Clemson’s Yannick Maden at number-one singles 7-6, 6-3. David Hopkins of Wake Forest defeated Gerardo Meza 7-6, 6-1 at number-two singles.
The next match off was the number-three singles contest. Amogh Prabhakar of Wake Forest defeated Ayrton Wibowo 3-6, 7-6, 6-2. This tied the team score at three.
Lee then defeated Dominique Maden 7-6, 7-6 at number-four singles to claim the victory.
Wake Forest will play North Carolina on Friday at 12:00 p.m. in the quarterfinal round at the tournament.
