Volleyball Set For K-State Invitational Thursday & Friday

CLEMSON, S.C. – After a 3-0 weekend and a tournament title in-hand to open the 2019 season, the Clemson Volleyball team heads to Manhattan, Kansas for the K-State Invitational Thursday and Friday (Sept. 5-6). There, the Tigers will face the Wildcats on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+, and Nebraska Omaha and Central Arkansas on Friday at 11 a.m. ET and 6 p.m. ET, respectively. This weekend’s tournament will take place in K-State’s Bramlage Coliseum, which is home to the Wildcat men’s and women’s basketball teams. Additionally, Thursday and Friday’s contests will mark the first-ever meeting between Clemson and all three opponents.

Clemson Notes

  • Michaela Franklin, who is in her third season as Clemson’s head coach, returns to her alma mater, where she was an outside hitter from 2002-04 under current Wildcat Head Coach, Suzie Fritz, who is currently in her 16th season at the helm. Franklin graduated from K-State in 2005.
  • Thursday and Friday’s contests will mark the first-ever meeting between Clemson and all three opponents.
  • Clemson secured the Big Orange Bash (Aug. 30-31) tournament title in Jervey Gym this past weekend.
  • The Tigers defeated Kennesaw State, 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, for the first time in program history (third-ever matchup) in what was effectively the Big Orange Bash title match.
  • Redshirt junior Kaylin Korte was named Tournament MVP in her first return to the floor since 2017, having missed the 2018 season due to an ACL injury. Korte averaged 3.40 kills per set and hit .313 for the tournament. She also registered her sixth career double-double in the Tigers’ opening match of the season, a sweep over Georgia, with 10 kills and a match-high 14 digs.
  • In addition to Korte, junior Brooke Bailey and sophomore Solei Thomas were named to the Big Orange Bash All-Tournament Team. Thomas averaged 3.20 kills per set, while Bailey averaged 2.67 kills per set.
  • Freshman setter Mckenna Slavik was named the Heather Kahl Holmes Setter of the Tournament after posting a tournament-best 10.10 assists-per-set average.
  • The Tigers returned three 2018 All-ACC selections in Bailey (Second Team), Thomas (All-Freshman) and setter Gabby Easton (All-Freshman), which marked the first time since 2011 Clemson collected three ACC postseason selections.
  • In 2018, Clemson secured two postseason victories, a first in program history, with wins over Alabama A&M and Radford in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).
