Oct. 25, 2004

Clemson volleyball will play host to six consecutive home matches over the next two weeks, beginning with Georgia Southern on Tuesday in Jervey Gym. The Tigers and Eagles are scheduled for first serve at 7:00 PM.

Clemson split a pair of ACC matches over the weekend, winning over N.C. State but falling to North Carolina. The Tigers are 14-9 overall and have won six of their last eight matches. Clemson is 5-0 versus the Southern Conference this season.

The leaders for Clemson this season have been seniors Lori Ashton and Leslie Finn. Middle blocker Ashton leads the squad with a .338 hitting percentage and 98 total blocks. Finn, who is fourth in Clemson history in career kills, leads the conference with 5.30 per game and has 435 total kills.

Anna Vallinch had another solid weekend for the Tiger backcourt. She posted 32 digs in the loss to North Carolina. It marked the third time this season the sophomore transfer has topped the 30-dig mark. Her best was a Jervey Gym-record 35 digs versus the Tar Heels in September.

Georgia Southern brings a 14-6 record into Jervey Gym. The Eagles are atop the Southern Conference standings with a 9-2 record and have won 12 of their last 14 matches overall.

The Eagles are led by Iulia Porumbescu, who has a team-best 349 kills and 265 digs. She also is hitting at a .272 clip. Her primary help comes from Jennifer Charles, who has a team-high 72 total blocks. Also playing well for the Eagles are a pair of setters who split time, Natalia Galantini (457 assists) and Susan Winkelman (496 assists).

The Tigers face Miami and Florida State at home this weekend following the Tuesday match with Georgia Southern.
